Arizona State’s Calynne Rosholt surged to the top of the leaderboard with a 2-under 69, and Wake Forest seized the team lead Tuesday in the second round of the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate at Long Cove Club on Hilton Head Island.
Rosholt used a stellar back nine to move into first place, shooting a 2-under 33 with a trio of birdies to move to 3-under (139) on the week and take a one-shot advantage over Wake Forest’s Carolina Lopez-Chacarra and Texas’ Bohyun Park.
Three more golfers sit just two shots back of the pace, including Arizona State’s Alexandra Forsterling, Sara Kouskova of Texas, and Alabama’s Polly Mack, who tied for the low round of the day with a scorching 3-under 68.
Wake Forest (571) put up a dominant team performance, shooting a 4-under 280 to take a six-stroke lead heading into Wednesday’s final round. Lauren Walsh led the way with a 68 to match Mack’s total, racking up three birdies on the front nine. Lopez-Chacarra fired a stellar 69, Rachel Kuehn shot an even-par 71, and Mimi Rhodes carded a 72 as the Demon Deacons posted the round’s lone under-par team score.
Arizona State sits in second place at 577, Baylor dropped to third with a two-day total of 578, and both Texas and Alabama share fourth place with matching 579s.
Former Hilton Head Prep star Sophia Burnett impressed for Furman, shooting a 73 to move into a tie for 28th (147) while teammate and Hilton Head native Savannah Hylton shot an 85.
