Happy Heritage, y'all! What a first round we had on Thursday, with so many big names out there. This is the best field I remember seeing in a regular April event. And they showed why they are big names with a bunch of the top players in the world right in the mix.
I started my day off around 5:30 a.m. again with standard bearing, and after that I just hung out and lived life to its fullest, and I have the step count to prove it.
That 5:30 alarm isn't something I looked forward to setting before I got to sleep but when you hear it and wake up it is well worth it. Getting out there and lining up outside the cart barn is just another feeling that I can't describe, because you are eagerly waiting to be allowed in so you can pick which group you would like to serve as a standard bearer.
My group consisted of Peter Malnati, Emiliano Grillo, and Roger Sloan. I must've been a good luck charm for that group because they all played well and finished with a combined total of 6 under par.
After that, I spent most of the rest of my day hanging out around the Heritage Lawn and in the Calibogue Club. In the Heritage Lawn there is an Adidas tent with two simulators and a closest to the pin contest on No. 17 — closest to the pin each day and on each bay wins a $500 Adidas gift card, so I’ll keep taking my shot.
No standard bearing for me Friday, so I’ll be walking the course and taking in the action as an on-course correspondent for LowcoGolf so I can share my insight on our nightly recap podcast.
See y’all out there!
